Céline – French immersion in Brittany
Warm and cheerful, I look forward to welcoming you!
Your teacher
I have been a French teacher for over 30 years, and three years ago I decided to start hosting language stays, which has been a wonderful experience.
I live with my husband in Brittany, in a large house surrounded by nature. I am warm and cheerful, and I love interacting with people, sharing experiences and the mutual enrichment that hosting language stays brings.
Our estate is a little corner of paradise, with a lake where you can go pedalo or boat riding, lots of animals (dogs, cats, mini pigs, alpacas, ponies, goats, sheep and chickens), a heated indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a spa and a games room with table tennis and billiards: you won't get bored outside of class!
What's more, Brittany is a beautiful region that is definitely worth visiting. I love it and would be delighted to help you discover it.
Important: dogs, cats and miniature pigs live with us in the house.
See you soon!
Teaching style
My program
My program is flexible and will be developed with you, according to your wishes.
As a general rule, we start lessons after breakfast and reserve the afternoons for excursions and activities. However, depending on the number of hours you have chosen, we can also spread the lessons throughout the day.
I can give you formal lessons, but if you are not keen on this style of teaching, I can also offer more interactive lessons with role-playing, preparing a meal together, going shopping, going for a walk or feeding the animals, for example.
The ideal approach is to combine these two types of teaching, but you are of course free to choose according to your preferences.
My experience teaching French:
I have over 30 years of experience teaching French to teenagers aged 11 and above, adults, new arrivals and unaccompanied minors.
My method of teaching French:
I am committed to varying my teaching materials: I use existing textbooks (CLE International in particular), documents I have created myself, videos, newspapers, songs, etc.
I also use our daily activities to encourage you to speak
French.
I systematically correct mistakes, even during informal conversations: don't take offence, it's to help you improve ;-)!
Which students are affected?
I teach all levels, from A1 to C2, and accept children aged 12 and above, as well as adults.
I can also help you prepare for official exams such as the DALF, DELF or immigration tests.

The region
We’re not originally from Brittany, but I, for one, fell in love with the region thirty years ago. We’ve been living here for the past five years, which has been a real joy, and we’d be delighted to show you around.
Climate:
The Brittany region has an oceanic climate, characterised by generally fine, mild summers and mild winters, which are often rainy and windy but also feature lovely calm, sunny days. Temperature fluctuations are small and frosty days in winter are rare.
Food:
Kouign-amann, kig ha farz… what on earth are they? Haven’t you heard of the specialities that are the pride of Brittany yet? Discover the must-try dishes of Breton cuisine: mussels, oysters, seafood, crêpes, salted butter, Breton cakes, Plougastel strawberries, andouille de Guéméné. Guaranteed to make your mouth water!
Culture:
Breton music and dance are essential elements of Breton culture, reflecting the region’s history and traditions. Gilles and I used to play in a Breton music group, and I can teach you the most iconic dances: andro, hanter dro, gavotte… Then we’ll put your lessons into practice by going dancing at fest deiz or fest noz (daytime or night-time festivals in Breton). At the start of August, we can head to the Interceltic Festival of Lorient, a major event in the region.
The excursions and experiences
Suggestions for excursions:
- Carnac and its megalithic site
- Quiberon and its wild coastline
- Saint-Cado, famous for its little fisherman's cottage in the water
- Auray and its charming port of Saint-Goustan
- Vannes, with its cobbled streets and medieval charm
- Rochefort-en-Terre, voted the most beautiful village in France
- Pont-Aven, the city of painters

- The sailing city of Lorient
Furthermore, Morbihan, in southern Brittany, is home to a diverse group of islands and islets, some of which are inhabited and others protected, offering a unique blend of nature, culture and history.
- Île-aux-Moines: known as the ‘pearl of the gulf’, it is easily accessible from Port-Blanc and ideal for walking or cycling, with its typical white houses and coastal paths.
- Île d’Arz: less crowded, it offers a peaceful setting and a 17 km coastal path, with beaches, marshes and panoramic viewpoints.
- Houat and Hoëdic: situated on the ocean side, these islands are perfect for a day trip and can be easily explored on foot.
- Belle-Île-en-Mer: larger and more remote, it offers vast areas to explore, spectacular cliffs and picturesque villages.
- Gavrinis and Ilur: small, off-the-beaten-track islands, ideal for the curious and lovers of historical sites, particularly prehistoric cromlechs and cairns.
- The island of Groix: for visitors arriving on its shores, exploring the island of Groix is a magical experience that cannot fail to leave a lasting impression. A mineralogical treasure born of a geological whim of extreme rarity on the planet, this 1,500-hectare island, home to 17 villages, offers a wide variety of coastal landscapes, both cultivated and wild.

I had an absolutely fantastic language immersion experience during my holiday with Céline, Gill and their whole family. It exceeded all my expectations. Their hospitality was extraordinary: delicious food, fascinating and enriching conversations, encounters with adorable animals inside and outside the house, excursions to the beautiful sites of Brittany and even a fest noz!
Céline is a very experienced, talented and patient teacher. I am only an advanced beginner in spoken French, and my stay lasted only a week, but this experience has given me a huge boost in confidence. I now feel comfortable enough to have simple conversations with strangers.
I highly recommend this experience!
My stay chez Céline was pleasant and relaxing, there’s a lot of space upstairs to take time for yourself without being confined to your room. Céline is a conscientious host and a very experienced teacher, and is very willing to tailor lessons to your needs. The location is peaceful and I enjoyed some local walks each day in the countryside. We did three excursions during my stay which I very much enjoyed. The opportunity to meet some of their neighbours over a meal was also appreciated.
Had a great time learning French at this beautiful country house that’s perfect for animal lovers! Céline and Gilles are kind and attentive hosts and the one-on-one homestay environment gave me ample opportunity to practice and develop my French skills throughout the day.
Although my French level is fairly basic, I felt a vast improvement in my abilities after only a week there and am looking forward to returning at some point to continue my studies!
I had a lovely stay with Céline and Gilles. They were kind and attentive hosts and made me feel right at home. My French lessons with Céline were excellent! She made our sessions fun and interactive, while focusing on my specific needs. I was impressed with how much she was able to fit in to our limited time together. She quickly and accurately assessed my language skills and delivered on a well-focused learning plan.
I just spent 8 days with Céline and Gilles practising my French, and my séjour was exactly what I hoped for, and more! I improved my spoken French and my comprehension because we were able to speak French almost exclusively for the entire time. Céline perfectly matched the speed and complexity of her French to my level as I improved over my stay. Céline is an excellent teacher—our daily lessons were very helpful. I particularly enjoyed the mealtime discussions that Gilles would always participate in. What a warm and welcoming couple! I felt at home right from the outset. The quiet setting of their home, walking distance to the town of Landévant, was ideally suited to me, for learning French and for birdwatching! Meals were fantastic—I was able to try many types of traditional dishes and cheeses. And those pastries! This was a very memorable experience for me. Highly recommended.

It was absolutely great! I recommend Celine without any restrictions!
Excellent teacher. The location was great and Céline and Gilles were really nice and extremely approachable. The house had a jacuzzi, an indoor pool, a little lake and a variety of animals, like cats, dogs, sheep and goats. Probably not suitable for people who are allergic to animals.
