Levels taught
In my opinion, a French immersion stay will be fully beneficial as long as the student already has some basic language skills to put into practice.
That said, I’ve had beginners who wanted to take advantage of a more tourist-oriented stay to explore the region, the stunning natural environment of the Chaîne des Puys, the local gastronomy... with whom we often communicated more in English outside of the morning classes.
The choice is yours!
No matter your level, I will adapt to your needs and interests ☺️
Great for
-
Accompanied children
-
Adults
-
Family or friends traveling together
-
Solo teenagers
🏡 You will be staying in a very comfortable, authentic, semi-detached stone house (80m²), featuring two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom.
The warm and spacious living room opens onto a south-facing terrace overlooking the gardens. The kitchen is fully equipped, allowing you to prepare meals for when you're dining at home. This accommodation is also ideal for longer stays.
The building was originally an old barn attached to our house. It was converted in the 1980s, and we acquired it 7 years ago, completely renovating it while respecting the original structure and the environment.
🌳 The surroundings are very quiet, as the house is located in a cul-de-sac. You won’t hear any traffic, making it an ideal place to unwind and also to learn in a peaceful setting. Weather permitting, we can, of course, enjoy the terrace!
Your private house is located right in the heart of the village.
🥐 Shops are just a short walk away (3 to 5 minutes), including two bakeries, a butcher, a mini-market, an organic produce store, a brasserie, a restaurant, a tobacconist, craftsmen, and of course, a café/bar.
🚗 If you have a car, parking is easy right in front of the house.
✔️ It’s also possible to extend your stay in this peaceful and very comfortable house!

🌋 During your French immersion course in Volvic, you'll be located in the heart of the Auvergne region, which lies within the Massif Central.
You’ll be right at the center of the Auvergne Volcanoes Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
🌱 For nature lovers, Volvic is lucky to be surrounded by numerous hiking trails. The volcanoes and abundant natural areas offer endless opportunities to escape and explore.
By the way, have you ever visited a volcano?
⛪️ Are you interested in historical heritage? You’ll also be close to several remarkable towns, including Riom, the former capital of the Auvergne region; Clermont-Ferrand, famous for its stunning lava-stone cathedral and as the birthplace of Michelin tires; and, a little further afield, Vichy, a renowned spa town listed as one of Europe’s “great spa towns” by UNESCO.
The excursions and experiences
The Auvergne region offers a wide variety of landscapes and diverse activities—there's something for everyone! Hiking, the art of enameling on lava, exploring surrounding towns with their unique characters… these are just a few of the recurring themes.
⛰️If you're a nature lover, we can hike the stunning volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll be right in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes National Park. If you love panoramic views, you'll be spoilt for choice! It's even possible to hike to the summit of Puy de Dôme (on foot or by funicular), the highest point in the Chaîne des Puys!
🌋 Want to learn even more about volcanoes?
We can explore a volcano deep within its core! It has been a scientific and educational site for nearly twenty years, after being used as a quarry post-World War II.
🪨 Continuing with the geological theme, you can dive into the heart of the Volvic lava flow by visiting the Grotte de la Pierre in Volvic itself! Here, you'll learn how Volvic mineral water was discovered during the exploitation of lava rock.
🖌️ One of the region's authentic local crafts is the use of lava stone to create magnificent enameled stones. I offer this workshop as part of your language immersion in Volvic. My enameling colleague, Coline, will be happy to teach you this art and guide you through one or more sessions. You’ll create your own works of art and leave with beautiful memories—both in your hands and your heart!
💡Enameling courses are available in combination with your language immersion, either over one or two weeks.
🟢 Special offer on enameling courses in September/October! 😉
For more details, visit my website (link at the bottom of the page) and feel free to contact me.
⛲️ Auvergne is also home to towns and cities with exceptional architectural heritage. Riom, the former capital of Auvergne, and Clermont-Ferrand, with its majestic Gothic cathedral made from lava stone, are prime examples. Further afield (just a 25-minute train ride away), you can explore Vichy, a spa town that flourished during the reign of Napoleon III, filled with architectural treasures and rich history.
💡 Upon request, you can enjoy a guided tour of this stunning city located along the banks of the Allier River.
🚙 Are you familiar with Michelin tires? Clermont-Ferrand is the birthplace of this iconic rubber company, which has grown into a multinational. The Michelin Adventure Museum will give you an in-depth look at the company's fascinating history and its significant impact on the city.
...and of course, these are just suggestions, but many other possibilities are available to you. Don’t hesitate to share them with me during our video call!

There's also a small station in Volvic, although it's a little out of the way and not served as frequently. A few shuttle buses are available from the village center to this station.
Things to know
🏡 The charming stone house where you'll be staying is also a gîte that welcomes holidaymakers year-round. Well-equipped and comfortable (4*), it’s a delight throughout the seasons. I stayed with Soline and her family in the summer of 2023. I was a relative beginner, but Soline shaped the lessons to match my skills. The lessons were challenging, but I learned a lot during my time with Soline. The accommodations really are as nice as they appear in the pictures. Soline served up a great déjeuner after our lessons, and it was fun to join the family and get a sense of everyday life in small town France. Volvic is located on the edge of la Chaîne des Puys and Auvergne Volcanoes regional parks which are ideal for hiking and biking. My excursions with Soline were great. The nice thing about the excursions, is that you can choose those that most interest you. If you are interested in improving your French and getting acquainted with this unique part of France, spend a week or two with Soline.
An outstanding experience,
My partner Jeremy and I completed a French immersion course with Soline, and we couldn’t recommend it more highly. The standard of teaching was truly excellent—tailored, thoughtful, and incredibly effective. Despite being at quite different levels of French, Soline managed our sessions so that we both progressed significantly over the course of our stay. Her ability to balance our needs made the experience not only productive but also genuinely enjoyable.
We felt warmly welcomed into Soline’s family lifeMealtimes and conversations were not just opportunities to practise our French but to feel part of something very special.
The accommodation itself was lovely—cosy, comfortable, and full of character.
The local area is both beautiful and fascinating. combined with Soline’s thoughtful introduction to the complexities of French history. It added real depth to our understanding of the language and culture
A truly enriching experience in every sense.
I spent a week with Soline, a great hostess, teacher and hiking companion. We toured nearby Vichy and Clermont Ferrand and created art together at a local gallery and workshop. The stay was wonderful, I learned lots of French and had a great time.
My sons and I adored our stay with Soline! Volvic is a beautiful town in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which we enjoyed exploring when my sons were not in class with Soline. Soline and her family were very welcoming and the meals that we shared together were delicious. The accommodation (right next door to Soline) is perfect (the beds are very comfortable!). The quality of French lessons were excellent. Soline did a great job of teaching each of my sons at their level to make the lessons engaging and fun. I highly recommend a stay with Soline in Volvic! We will be back!
Quelle semaine incroyable!
I've now had two separate week long immersion courses with Soline in Volvic and each time I've found the experience rewarding, fulfilling and hugely enjoyable. Both times I’ve been amazed at how quickly our sessions flew by. For more than three hours every morning we spoke French, with Soline interjecting, correcting, and taking notes for my later contemplation. Our topics ranged from travel to history to photography to current affairs to cheese, with many diversions, and much laughter. As before I was gutted when the week drew to a close, as it had been so much fun, and I could feel myself speaking French with more ease and fluidity with each day. What’s more the week provided my wife and I with another opportunity to really immerse ourselves in the French way of life, and to explore the beautiful surrounding area of the Parc des Volcans d’Auvergne.
I attended a French refresher course with Soline Sterbecq, which was extremely valuable. The price-quality ratio clearly met my expectations. Within two intensive weeks, my French improved by two full levels.
I had an absolutely fantastic time staying with Soline and her family. They were incredibly hospitable. I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners together and hikes around the volcanoes. It was wonderful to be able to speak French the entire time. Soline is a great conversationalist and patient teacher. The lovely and spacious apartment was a short walk from fresh pastries and coffee, as well as running paths. Highly recommend.
I simply loved my French Immersion experience with Soline Sterbecq in Volvic! I found Soline very skilled as a French teacher and able to discern exactly what I needed to develop and improve my ability to speak French (this was my goal). I cannot speak highly enough of Soline in this regard. She instilled a lot of confidence in me. In addition to being an excellent teacher, Soline is a lovely, open, and interesting person to get to know. I also loved La Gite - the apartment next to Soline's home where I stayed. It is pretty, spacious and comfortable. The food that was served for lunch was delicious and my various food intolerances were able to be accommodated. We went on a couple of wonderful excursions tailored to my preferences. I can highly recommend a French Immersion experience with Soline.
I had a terrific immersion experience with Soline. We spoke French all day long, got out in the countryside, and made outings specific to my interests. Her family kindly welcomed me into their lives. Soline is a gifted teacher who understands how to meet students at their current level and help them along towards improvement. She is kind and fun and a brilliant conversationalist. Tiny Volvic is a peaceful town far from the tourist crowds, and Soline's apartment is spacious, beautifully renovated, and clean.
